The “WTF Jane Fairfax!” face, which I get every time I watch or read Emma. I don’t understand her and I don’t think we are meant to as Emma doesn’t really understand her either. Is Jane constantly moody and quiet because she thinks she is about to become a governess, which she equates to slavery? Or is she just ‘reserved’? What is going on in her head? Why does she even bother with Frank Churchill? I’d like to read a novel about that.
